You're not going to see a 40 GB partition unless you used Boot Camp Assistant or Disk Utility to create one! VMware Fusion creates a virtual disk which is nothing more then a set of files stored to wherever you save the VM to! If the Virtual Machine Package has not yet been removed from the Host's disk then you should be able to see in with either of those utilities I provided the links for.
Also by default the virtual hard disk is a sparse disk and would not consume the full size set for the disk unless you have filled it up while running Windows or decided to pre-allocate it!
